OBITUARIES

 

 

DOROTHY SMILEY, 71, of Memphis, transitioned into eternal life on Friday, February 13, 2009 at Methodist University Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, and nurturer to many relatives and friends. A proud attendee of Florida Street Elementary and Booker W. Washington High School, she maintained long relationships with many of her childhood friends who also grew up proudly in the South Memphis area. She later became diligently active in all of her children’s education at their various elementary and high schools also becoming founder and head of the Volunteer Parent’s Committee at Double Tree Elementary in the Westwood area. A life long member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on Willie Mitchell Blvd., where home going services will be held Saturday, February 21 at 1 p.m. Mrs. Smiley leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Charles E. Smiley; children: Anthony Winston of Memphis, Pamela Winston of West Memphis, AR, Jacquelyn Norman (Reginald) of Coldwater, MS, Felecia R. Ellis (Walter) of Marion, AR, Charlene Woodley (Curtis) of Memphis and Velma Thomas (Terry) of Memphis; siblings, Annie Ruth Vaughn and Berry Winston, Jr., both of Indiana, Preston Winston, Catherine Henry and Jessie Morgan of Memphis and Melvin Winston of Oklahoma and 13 grandchildren.
