OBITUARIES

 

 

DR. BOOKER TALIAFERRO HODGES of Memphis, TN died at home after a long battle with cancer. He was 78 years of age. Dr. Hodges practiced dentistry for 40 years and retired in 1999. He was born in Memphis and resided in the community all of his life with the exception of three years of military duty as a commissioned officer of the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Le Moyne-Owen College and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Survivors include his wife, Fredricka Allen Hodges; a daughter, Tami Monique Hodges of Memphis, TN; a son, Dr. Frederick Taliaferro Hodges of Memphis, TN; two brothers, Jesse Hodges of Tulsa, OK and Warren Hodges of Carson, CA; two sisters, Mary Liggins and Margaret Jones, both of Olive Branch, MS, and three grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at Greenwood Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 3311 Kimball Ave, Memphis, TN 38111. The Funeral will commence at 11 a.m. April 8 at Greenwood C.M.E. He will be buried in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd. In keeping with his commitment to education and his passion for Le Moyne-College, in lieu of flowers we request that a monetary contribution be sent to the Le Moyne-Owen College/OIA, Dr. Booker T.
