Gloria Jean Miller, 65,
retired Memphis City Schools principal, departed this life Sunday,
October 31, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital after a long illness. She
was a dedicated educator, devoted family member, and a loyal friend.
She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, received a
bachelor’s degree in education from LeMoyne-Owen College, and a
master’s degree in supervision and administration from the
University of Memphis (at the time Memphis State University). She
completed post graduate coursework for a specialist degree in
educational leadership at the University of Mississippi. She was
active in numerous professional and civic organizations and a member
of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Gloria is survived by a
caring and loving husband of forty-six years, Larry James Miller,
Sr.; devoted sons, Larry James Miller, Jr. (Clara) and Mark Joseph
Miller (Rochelle); a grand- daughter, Maia Jenai Miller; two
sisters, Joy Miller Hardy (Wade) and Jacqueline Miller Whaley; a
host of nieces and nephews, and many, many devoted friends.
Visitation is Friday, November 5, 5-8 p.m., with Omega-Omega service
beginning at 5:30 p.m.; funeral service is Saturday, November 6 at
10 a.m., M. J. Edwards Funeral Home, Stage Road Chapel, 4445 Stage
Road. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memorial Park
