OBITUARIES

 

 

JAMES ALLEN “Lab” MATHEWS, 60, retired President U.A.W. Local 6519, member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church and male chorus, was a member of the Evangelistic Ministry and Sunday School ministry, and a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, died November 1, 2008. Visitation will be from 4-6:30 p.m. Friday, November 7 at N.J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, and from 11-12:55 a.m., with service at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 8 at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 2231 S Parkway E. Pastor Frank E. Ray officiating. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. He leaves his wife, Dorothy Mathews of Memphis; one daughter, Debbie Mathews of Memphis; two sons, James Heath (Jackie) Ross of Chicago, IL and Darrin Mathews of Memphis, TN; mother-in-law, Aldonia Morris of Memphis; three sisters, Nadirah (Wali) Shaheed, Emma Holliman, both of Memphis and Ella M. Woods (David) of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren, a special aunt, Catherine Himphill of Memphis; a special uncle, Emmanuel Mathews of Memphis; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends.
