PHELMON WILLIAMS, 87, of Memphis, departed his
blessed life in this land of the dying to meet his Savior in the land of
the living on January 3, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital. He was the
dutiful son of the late Leroy and Jennie Williams and the oldest of nine
children. He was an honor student, graduate of Booker T. Washington High
School and faithful to the class of 1939. He attended Henderson Business
college and Owen College. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Later he
married Eloise P. Lewis on December 26, 1946. They were married for 51
wonderful years upon her death July 26, 1998. He was a long and loving
member of Greater Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church. Serving on the
Usher Board and Secretary/Treasurer of the Poor Saints Fund. He enjoyed
every job he worked on due to the positive and loving spirit he
demonstrated. Career: U.S. postal clerk, Sam Fortas Rentals, Senior
Citizens/Meritan: MIFA, Memphis Food Bank, Catholic Charities, and
Heritage Academy school. He was a long time NAACP member and a strong
advocate for the Love, Justice and Fairness of all people. He leaves a
son, Charles T. Williams and daughter, Brenda Jones Johnson (Victor);
one very loved granddaughter, Charness A. Williams. He was a
responsible, dependable, kind-hearted, gentle, patient, loving and
caring Daddy. Phelmon spear headed our first family reunion after the
death (1984) of his beloved mother. His life will forever be cherished
by his grateful children, his 4 thankful sisters, also a host of
precious nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends/co-workers.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 10, 2009 from 10 a.m. until
11:55 a.m. with Funeral Service starting at 12 noon at Greater -Lakeview
Missionary Baptist church, 191 E. Holmes Rd., with burial in New Park
